BRISBANE, Australia (AP) ? Serena Williams injured her left ankle Wednesday at the Brisbane International in what looms as a major setback for her Australian Open preparations.

Williams, in her first trip Down Under since winning the 2010 Australian Open and playing a tournament for the first time since losing last year's U.S. Open final, was serving for the match with a 6-2, 5-3 lead against Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski when she twisted her ankle and crashed heavily to the court.

The 13-time Grand Slam winner needed treatment as she lay near the baseline for several minutes and then had the ankle re-taped before resuming the match and losing the next point to surrender a service break.

Williams limped through the next game, wincing in pain after at least two points, before securing a 6-2, 6-4 win to advance to the quarterfinals.

She left the court without commenting and tournament officials said she was being examined by a doctor. Williams has been troubled by injuries for much of the past two seasons and spent long periods on the sidelines.

Sam Stosur, who beat Williams in the U.S. Open final last September, lost 6-4, 6-2 to Iveta Benesova in the preceding match on center court. Stosur has never advanced beyond the second round at her home tournament.

It was the 28-year-old Benesova's fourth win over a top-10 player.

The No. 54-ranked Czech player had never taken a set off Stosur in four previous matches but now finds herself in a quarterfinal against Australian Open champion Kim Clijsters.

"Hopefully it was just a bad day and I will bounce back next week and the week after," Stosur said of her Australian Open preparations. "I don't want to dwell on it.

"It's not the ideal start but I am not going to panic and think it's all lost."

Estonia's Kaia Kanepi beat seventh-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia 6-0, 6-3 in another women's match.

On the men's side, second-seeded Gilles Simon of France beat Australian teenager James Duckworth 6-3, 7-5, and sixth-seeded Radek Stepanek of Czech Republic had a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over Finland's Jarkko Nieminen.

"This is definitely one of the best server I have played on. For all of you who love role playing games or MMO's, this is definitely the best experience of either out there. To me, it is better than even The Elder Scrolls since you actually can change what happens and you actually can make a difference. Though you are not the center of the plot, you still make a real difference."

"This server has an advanced system of plugins, many are custom, which enable a complete role playing experience. You earn money, but houses, craft items, buy items, sell items, destroy the enemy, make cities, what ever you can imagine, only with 214 other players on any given night."

"It is the only place you can have a 90 player battle with no lag.
`-Muchoman798 "Monday, August 22, 2011

"Ive been on this server for around a week now and so far I have found it to be the most engaging, fun, and satisfying roleplaying experience out there. The admins are respectful, but are still fun to talk too and not bland or constantly silent. The cities are constantly active and full of life, the shops are filled with goods, and there seems to always be something to build or help build. Honestly, with a 24/7 server as good as this, why would you want to play on any other RP server?"
-blackhawk77g August 16

"Ever since I played this server for the first time, it has been one of, if not THE most enjoyable role-playing outlets I've ever had. It really is like Lord of the Rings, what with the races, the lands, and the people, and it tops even browser games that have been created for a role-playing purpose. The amazing thing about this server is that instead of living in a pre-built, pre-created world and plot, you can really shape the world and feel like you can make a difference. YOU could be the King of a powerful nation, YOU could be a valiant Knight at the front lines of an attack, and, equally important, YOU could be the Antagonist, the plotting lowlife from the very gates of Hell, raising monsters at your command, casting lightning, and burning all of what is good."

"It's an in-depth RP system that is only growing in quality. For the best environment, they only let in those that mean it when it comes to role-playing, and this is determined through an application process that not only filters out those who won't be as fruitful, but builds your life in this beautiful, pixelated world."
-"I love this server." - xGDRx August 4

[uruknet.info] How ?Terminator' influenced the US military's strategy under the ?War on Terror' - the stark realities of drone warfare

December 31, 2011

The U.S Military terminology for a successful kill of 'suspected combatants or in most cases innocent civilians is 'Bugsplat, which is displayed to the locals through the realities on the ground.

Control pad warfare employed by the U.S only furthers the 'legacy of international violations they are leaving behind for humanity under the pretext of the 'War on Terror. Investigations reveal thousands of systematic human rights violations across the globe in Yemen, Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan and the tribal areas bordering Pakistan.

The support for extrajudicial killing from the State Departments legal adviser, defends the US Militarys use of unmanned aerial vehicles for targeted killings and assassinations, which is a full frontal assault on international human rights and humanitarian law. The CIA Director Leon E. Panetta called the UAV killings as 'the only game in town in terms of confronting and trying to disrupt the Al Qaeda leadership.

The rhetoric employed by the American government and CIA operatives is one of amusement and play. Although the Americans are well known for their Hollywood classics, such as 'Terminator are we living in a new paradigm in this 'War on Terror, were the fictional storylines of 'Skynet have finally come to reality on the front lines?

'Skynet perceived the attempt by humans to deactivate it as an attack and came to the conclusion that all of humanity would attempt to destroy it. To defend itself, it determined that humanity should be exterminated [Terminator]

The U.S Military terminology for a successful kill of 'suspected combatants or in most cases innocent civilians is 'Bugsplat, which is displayed to the locals through the realities on the ground. The intention behind the term speaks volumes in itself, that is how human life is perceived.

Supporters of the 'Obama Doctrine scream in delight and boast about the high level of technology which glides the skies of Afghanistan and beyond territorial borders, using precision technology, as this is supposed to add weight to their flimsy legal justification. If the 'drones were of such superior technology, then why is the majority of attacks killing innocent civilians, ruining generations of lives and destroying humble infrastructure without any true accountability or transparency.

Investigations have recorded that many strikes led to the extrajudicial killing of innocent civilians, among them were young children. I wonder if the operator of the drone announced 'Bugsplat on those occasions.

Dj vu is what the nationals of the conflict related countries feel all day every day. "Ground Zero" in New York is just on one large block, but the reality for these countries due to the 'Obama doctrine is that Ground Zero is on every block.

Federal Agent Shot Dead Getting Dad's Cancer Meds

NEW YORK ? ?An off-duty federal law enforcement agent who died while confronting a pharmacy robber was picking up his elderly father's cancer medication, a New York congressman said Sunday.

Veteran agent John Capano had chased down the suspect inside the store and was trying to subdue him on the ground when he died, said Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y. The robber, who was also shot to death, was identified Sunday by police as 43-year-old James McGoey of Hampton Bays.

"John was with him on the ground wrestling," said King, who has spoken with local authorities and Capano's family. "Next thing you know, shots are fired."

McGoey went into Charlie's Family Pharmacy in Seaford, a small shorefront Long Island town, at about 2 p.m. on New Year's Eve, police said. He announced a holdup and was given what he came for: painkillers and money.

Capano, a trained explosives expert who had served in Iraq and Afghanistan, confronted McGoey as he tried to leave the store. Meanwhile, an off-duty NYPD officer and a retired Nassau County police officer who happened to be at a deli next door were alerted that someone was trying to rob the pharmacy, King said.

"This is a horrible confluence of events," King said. "They both hear this guy saying there's a robbery going on. They get their guns, they go next door."

It's not clear who shot either man. Capano, 51, died of a gunshot wound at a hospital. He was a 23-year veteran of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives who taught U.S. military and local forces in Afghanistan and Iraq how to investigate blasts, said Rory O'Connor, assistant special agent in charge in the ATF's New York office.

"He was a veteran agent who did his job well," O'Connor said. "Even though off-duty, he felt the need to take action in an attempt to protect the public."

Capano lived in nearby Massapequa and was married with two children. His father, Jimmy Capano, was a retired NYPD detective and the "unofficial mayor" of Merrick Road, the main thoroughfare in town and the street where his son was killed, King said.

"Everybody in Seaford knows the Capanos," said King, who has lived in the town for 40 years. "They're good, solid people."

On Saturday night, King spent half an hour with Jimmy Capano, who is 82 and was about to run out of his cancer medication.

"He was going to walk down to the pharmacy," King said. "And someone said, `Hey, John will pick them up for you."'

King did not know what type of cancer Jimmy Capano is being treated for, but said his wife, Helen, died of breast cancer two weeks ago.

During a visit to the crime scene Sunday morning, King saw the elder Capano again: standing in front of the pharmacy where his son died.

"He was standing at the front window with his hands in his pockets, staring," King said. "He's very tough and very emotional at the same time. He was obviously still trying to figure out what happened. As a cop, he was trying to go through the timeline."

The area has been struggling with a growing tide of prescription drug abuse, said Razov Felice, owner of an Italian restaurant down the street.

"There is a lot of problem in Long Island with these drugs," Felice said. "I don't know what people are thinking. The more people talk about these drugs, the more people are trying them."

A message left at McGoey's Hampton Bays home wasn't immediately returned Sunday.

Armed robberies at pharmacies in the U.S. rose 81 percent between 2006 and 2010, from 380 to 686, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. On Father's Day, four people were gunned down by a drug addict during a pharmacy robbery about 30 miles west of the one in Seaford where Capano was killed.

His death is the latest in a string of shootings of off-duty officers in the New York area who were responding to a crime.

In May, a New York Police Department officer shot to death an off-duty colleague who was carrying a gun while chasing a suspected car thief in East Harlem.

In March, an off-duty transit authority officer shot a Nassau County police officer who was in plainclothes and carrying a rifle while both men were responding to a crime in the town of Massapequa Park.

And in 2008, Westchester County police officers killed an off-duty officer from suburban Mount Vernon while he intervened in a fight.

a new opinion in Telecommunications about Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover

Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover

Product Type: Apple Mobile Phone Case

Newest Review:?... It cleans the screen while the iPad is not in use but because of the way it has to fold up into a stand, leaves three noticeable line... more

I got the green smart cover along with my I-Pad around six months ago in the Apple shop. I had originally seen the cover in the I-Pad 2 advert and had been quite impressed but was more than happy to go for a cheaper alternative until my dad offered to pay half on it. The variety was very good with a choice between a leather case, which was more expensive at around ?60 or a polyurethane case which was cheaper at ?35. There was then plenty of colour choice to suite the buyers prefernce including: blue, pink, red, light grey, brown and a few others.

When I opened it I was still quite impressed, the cover was quite pretty and attached to the I-pad with ease, no instructions really required. I was however a little disappointed to find it was only a one sided cover with no cover for the screen either, something I had expected for the price I had paid. As i didn't want to fork out more money for an additional back and screen cover I have continued to use this cover independently and due to the fact I only use my I-Pad at home at the moment it hasn't suffered to much damage, however I would defiantly recommend getting another cover if you take your I-Pad out with you as although the covered side is well protected the other side will always be open so unprotected from the damage of dropping, scratching, etc. The use of magnets means closing the cover turns the I-pad off, something I found useful when I was in a rush, had forgot to turn it off or just in general. The cover itself is quite well made and after half a year of fairly frequent use the cover is a little dirty (something I'm sure can easily be avoided with a regular clean) but fine otherwise, still fully together and working. The option of changing the cover to hold the I-Pad in different angles is also very useful, though I rarely use it is a nice addition for people that will/ do.

Overall it is a nice cover, very pretty when in use and also comes in a good variety of covers. I would however not recommend this to a friend unless they have money to burn or can get it for cheaper as there are plenty alternatives that do the exact same job (if not better) but with a much lower price tag.

Summary: It is a good cover that protects one side well, however for the price go for an alternative.

Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles fans (or not fans)?

I was thinking about creating a Tsubasa based fandom roleplay. It would be set up sometime after the adventures of Syaoran and the gang. For the conflict, I would either have some sort of rift in time/common enemy OR it can be character driven, and each person coincidentally meets each other at Yuko's place with the plot and conflict unraveling itself along the way.

Background of Tsubasa (for those who don't know that much, or those who need refreshing):

Tsubasa is about a princess, Sakura, who contains a power that a group of people want (this is the verrrrrrry short version, haha). Her chosen one--her best friend, Syaoran--are transported to the Dimensional Witch, Yuko, after Sakura loses her memories--in the form of feathers. When they get there, they are greeted by two other travelers with different pasts and reasons for being there, all with one common goal: to travel through dimensions. They talk to Yuko who tells them they must each give the thing dearest to them as a price to keep everything balanced, and the four set off on an adventure to regain the princess's feathers.

~It's a lot cooler and more in depth than I make it out to be! xD I just fail at giving synopiseseseses thingies.~

Why you should join:

1. Even if you haven't seen and/or read the entire series, you just know enough to be a fan, it can still be fun! I will provide enough information to help you with the general world, and since it doesn't coincide with the main characters and their story, it is free for all!

2. You can create ANY kind of character you want, within reasonable limits. Because Tsubase involves millions of dimensions, you can be a futuristic warrior, a poor magician, or royalty trying to find a deeper meaning in life. You aren't limited to the races and cultures of a single world.

3. I haven't really seen any Tsubasa-based roleplays on here, unless I've just totally missed something... >.>

4. It's Tsubasa, and it's AWESOME.

5. We get Mokona! <333

So if you're interested, just comment and tell me! Also if you don't mind, tell me if you would rather have a unified or character driven and developed conflict.
I look forward to your responses and hope that you would consider joining!! :D
