Pakistan name women?s squad for World Cup ? Cricket News Update

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selectors, on Tuesday named their final squad for the upcoming ICC Women?s World Cup, to be held in Mumbai, India, between January 31 and February 17, 2013.

San Mir has been retained as the captain of the 15-member squad, which also includes Gilgit born uncapped bowling all-rounder Diana Baig.

The Pakistan women have mostly played T20 cricket of late. They last played a One Day International series in Ireland in 2011. The most recent assignment the women in green have been in involved in was the Asian Cricket Council Women's Twenty20 Asia Cup in October 2012, where they finished as the runners up, after losing the tournament final to archrivals India. Prior to the T20 Asia Cup, the Sana Mir led Pakistan women contingent contested in the ICC Women?s World T20 Championship in Sri Lanka, in September-October 2012.

The PCB selectors have made minor changes to the squad from the Asia Cup, retaining Sana Mir at the helm. Middle order batsman Sidra Ameen, who has not played a One Day International for Pakistan since 2011, has been recalled into the national side, while all-rounder Marina Iqbal failed to make the cut for the esteemed tournament.

Pakistan cricket team qualified for the forthcoming marquee tournament after finishing runners up?to West Indies during the 2011 Women's World Cup Qualifier.

A total of eight teams, divided into two groups of four each, will participate in the latest edition of the global event. Pakistan have been placed in Group B, which also includes former champions Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. The other half includes the hosts India, title holders England, West Indies and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan will play their first match against Australia, at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai on the opening day, January 31, 2013. They are also scheduled to play two warm up fixtures, against defending champions England and West Indies on January 28 and 29 respectively.
