Cleaning Tip: Cleaning with Pets in Your Home

We?d like to pay special tribute to our furry friends this month, as May is National Pet Month. While many pets are considered man?s best friend, the messes they make can be man?s worst cleaning nightmare.

Trust us, from fur on furniture to calamities on the carpet, we?ve seen and cleaned it all and have a few helpful tips to keep in mind:

Act Quickly

Your pet?s mess on the carpet can be more than just a puddle. When urine hits the air, it breaks down into ammonia, which can permanently bleach your carpet. So, move quickly when you see a mess.

Rug Doctor?s Urine Eliminator Formula can do the trick. Urine Eliminator is perfect for eliminating both stains and odors and actually can be used for much more than urine ? it can remove several tough stains on your carpet including blood, dirt, mud, grass, feces and vomit. For non-urine pet messes, remove what is possible, and then use the Rug Doctor Pet Formula Carpet Cleaner for deep cleaning your carpet.

Missed Messes

To identify missed pet stains, which are often a source of persistent odors, buy a handheld black light. They?re inexpensive and are available at most home improvement and pet supplies stores. After giving your house a good inspection to identify areas where additional cleaning is needed, use
Rug Doctor?s Urine Eliminator or Pet Formula Carpet Cleaner for any overlooked stains or messes.

Hairy Situation

Vacuuming regularly will help remove pet hair and dander from your carpet and rugs, but vacuuming alone is not enough. Households with pets should deep clean carpets at least every three months with a hot-water extractor, such as the Rug Doctor machine. Pet beds can also get hairy and odor-filled quickly. Buy your pet a machine-washable bed to eliminate dander and odor. Wash it on a high temperature with your regular laundry detergent and spray with a diluted version of Rug Doctor?s Odor Remover (50% Odor Remover, 50% water) to help remove odors. ?Don?t forget about our Upholstery Hand Tool for cleaning sofas and chairs your pets frequent.

We hope these will help keep your home looking ? and smelling ? pet-free. For additional cleaning tips and advice, be sure to check out our website.
