Samsung to sue Apple over 4G LTE iPhone 5

Ahead of the upcoming Apple iPhone 5 release date, new reports have suggested Samsung will attempt to sue Apple over the handset?s expected use of 4G connectivity patents.

The latest reports, which come just days after Samsung was order to pay Apple $1.05 billion following a longstanding patent dispute in the US, have suggested the Korean handset manufacturer could target the eagerly awaited iPhone 5 if Apple launches an LTE 4G model.

According to the Korea Times, Samsung has confirmed it will target Apple?s next generation smartphone, and potential 4G LTE iPad mini tablet, with immediate legal action if the Cupertino based firm attempts to launch a new device that infringes on any of its patented technologies. Apple has repeatedly argued that a selection of Samsung patents should be made industry standards due to their broad, sweeping nature.

Failing to offer a direct source for its claims, the Korea Times reports have stated that ?Samsung confirmed that it will immediately sue Apple if the latter releases products using advanced long-term evolution (LTE) mobile technology.?

Although as yet unconfirmed, it is widely expected that Apple will launch a 4G enabled iPhone 5 handset for US markets, with the eagerly awaited handset tipped to be heading for a dramatic overhaul in a bid to quell the threat from the Android filled Samsung Galaxy S3.

With a raft of Apple iPhone 5 rumours having circulated in the past weeks and months, it is firmly believed that Apple will hold the much awaited iPhone 5 launch event on September 12th with a September 21st iPhone 5 release date set to follow shortly after.

Expected to be a more dramatic transition than that of the iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S, the Apple iPhone 5 is rumoured to be heading to launch with a new 4-inch Retina display and a completely redesigned form factor. Doing away with the eye-catching yet somewhat fragile glass back, a metal reared iPhone 5 design has done the rounds with the handset tipped to line up considerably slimmer than past models.

Helping keep this thickness down, Apple is expected to replace its longstanding 30-pin dock connector with a new, smaller, fast 9-pin offering for the iPhone 5. Adding substance to the rumours, a selection of claimed iPhone 5 USB cables have leaked online showing the mooted new connection port.

Elsewhere, the HTC One X rival is expected to undergo the standard camera optics updates, whilst the same A5X dual-core processor found on the Apple iPad 3 is also tipped for inclusion on the long overdue iPhone 5 release.
